The inclusion of this mineral in drinking water and toothpastes has resulted in reduced incidence (at least 25%) of cavities in all age groups. Community water fluoridation is advised and supported by all health care organizations with the knowledge that it helps improve oral health. By including fluoride in the water, it also helps reduce disparities in oral health based on socioeconomic status.
Fluoride inclusion is cost-effective for the public and government as a disease prevention public health intervention. Preserving fluoride in water has the potential to safeguard dental health for generations.
