Andrew De Mesa
Intern Fall 2009-Spring 2010
Andrew is UHPP’S first international intern! A native Australian, Andrew is completing his Bachelors as a double major in International Relations & Policy Studies at Deakin University in Melbourne. Before he continues on to an Honors degree in Australian Public and Security Policy, Andrew wanted an abroad experience in a field that reflects his personal interests and academic background. This brought him to UHPP, where he will be focusing on wellness initiatives as a component of health system reform at the state and national level. To his work at UHPP, Andrew brings with him a unique insight into Australian politics and health care. Back at home, Andrew worked closely with non-governmental organizations throughout his academic profession. He hopes to bring his rich civic experience to bear on his participation in Utah policy debates, starting with health reform. Andrew feels very fortunate to be part of the team at UHPP at this momentous time in history of health care reform efforts.
Once he has his books closed and mind out of politics and policies, Andrew likes to relax with movies, hikes, athletics, sports, music production, and appreciates the unique Utah environment. It certainly helps, Andrew says, that he's “already fallen in love with the Utah culture.” Coming from Australia ‘down under,’ he hopes to embark on a life changing experience and to further develop his interests in the USA, through culture, politics, people, and tradition.
